Required Qualifications

1. Educational background. Applicants in each track must hold one of the following qualifications. 

Track 1.1 Dissertation Only Track for applicants with a master’s in psychology. Applicants must: 

a. Hold a master’s degree in psychology with a GPAX of at least 3.50 (on a four-point grading scale) or  

b. Currently studying in the last semester of a master’s degree in psychology program with a GPAX of at least 3.50. 

Track 2.1 Coursework + Dissertation Track for applicants with a master’s in any field.  

        Applicants must: 

a. Hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and a master’s degree in any discipline with a GPAX of at least 3.50 or 

b. Hold a master’s degree in psychology with a GPAX of at least 3.50 or  

c. Currently studying in the last semester of a master’s degree in psychology with a GPAX of at least 3.50. 

Track 2.2 Coursework + Dissertation Track for applicants with a bachelor’s in psychology.  

       Applicants must: 

a. Hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a GPAX of at least 3.50 (on a four-point grading scale) or 

b. Currently studying in the last semester of a bachelor’s degree in psychology program with a GPAX of at least 3.50. 

2. English proficiency. Applicants must either  

a. Submit an English proficiency test result with a score equivalent to or above one of the following criteria: 

• • CU-TEP 78 or 

• • TOEFL iBT 78 or 

• • TOEFL ITP/PBT 550 or  

• • IELTS 6.0  

or  

b. Graduated from an international or English program in which English is used as the language of instruction and assessment.  

3. A Ph.D. dissertation proposal in the field of Cognitive Psychology. The proposal must be written in English with a maximum of 3,000 words, outlining goals, relevant literature, hypothesis, and potential study methods. See template here.

4. A statement of purpose. The statement of purpose must be written in English and is at most 1,000 words, illustrating the applicants’ motivation for studying in the program and their career plan after graduation.  

5. Three letters of recommendation. Two of them are preferably from academic advisors or faculty members in psychology. 

6. Other qualifications according to the annual announcement of the Graduate School, Chulalongkorn University. 

7. Any exemption from the required qualifications above must be approved by the M.S./Ph.D. in Psychological Science Program committee.  

8. Application Review. The following criteria will be used to evaluate each application: 

a. Educational background and experiences 

b. English proficiency  

c. Thesis proposal 

d. Statement of purpose 

e. Recommendation letters

A passing application requires a committee evaluation of 75% or higher. 

9. Interview. A maximum of 3 candidates who pass the application review process will be chosen for an interview. If there are more than 3 passing applications, only the top 3 ranking applicants will be chosen. All applicants in the tie will be chosen for the interview if the rank is tied.

2. CU-TEP or TOEFL ITP/PBT score report (if applicable)
