Special Talk: ‘Individualism-Collectivism Reconsidered: Overcoming Commonplace Cultural Stereotypes’

You are invited to attend ‘Individualism-Collectivism Reconsidered: Overcoming Commonplace Cultural Stereotypes,’ a talk by Dr. Plamen Akaliyski.

 

Dr. Akaliyski, an assistant professor in sociology at Lingnan University, Hong Kong, brings years of extensive research experience to the discussion. His work focuses on comprehending the nature and determinants of cultural differences among modern societies, with publications in journals such as the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology and European Societies.

 

During this presentation, Dr. Akaliyski will discuss a reevaluation of a significant concept in cross-cultural psychology: Hofstede’s scores. He will propose a new individualism-collectivism index for 99 countries/territories, grounded in nationally representative data from the World Values Survey and the European Values Study. Furthermore, the talk will encourage a deeper understanding of East-West differences that go beyond Individualism-Collectivism.
