From 2020 to 2023, Chulalongkorn University’s Psychology Faculty partnered with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation for a project. Their goal was to create an online system called Mental Health Online Service (MOS) or “Here to Heal” service to improve mental health services in Thailand. MOS offers a range of services, including mental health information, online consultations, and referrals to network providers. This project addresses the growing need for mental health support and aims to bridge the gap in access, particularly for financially disadvantaged individuals in Thailand.
The MOS service operates on the website https://heretohealproject.com and offers mental health consultation through Line and website. So far, we’ve helped 3,401 individuals with 4,281 sessions in various formats. Out of these, 691 people were referred to mental health service providers. We found that service recipients were significantly more life-satisfaction after receiving our help (t = 6.65; p > 0.00; df = 40). Also, 61.90% of those referred said they got the right information they needed.
Additionally, we organized workshops to promote mental health and shared knowledge through videos, infographics, and summaries on our website and Facebook. We collaborated with various stakeholders, including the public sector, civil society, academia, and the private sector, to support mental health policies in the country.
In 2022, we focused on destigmatization to reduce barriers that prevent individuals from seeking mental health support. Furthermore, reducing self-stigma or societal stigma also provides an opportunity for individuals to take care of their own and others’ mental health. The project promoted this issue through public seminars and video presentations.
Lastly, the Psychology Faculty and Thai Health Foundation plan to expand this project in the coming year.
